On the somber evening of March 7th, a message in our undergraduate Whatsapp group brought devastating news – the passing of Omkar Wagh on Sunday, March 2nd. The shockwaves reverberated through the group, leaving disbelief in their wake. It's difficult to comprehend that Omkar is no longer with us. His untimely departure has left behind a void, taking away a cherished friend and a peaceful soul.
Omkar and I shared the same hostel wing from 2006 to 2010 at IIT Bombay. We forged a bond that transcended the confines of our academic pursuits. Despite life's different paths leading us away from each other geographically, we managed to stay in touch and occasionally meet whenever our paths crossed in the same city.
However, amidst the busyness of life, I realize with a heavy heart that our communications had dwindled over the past year or so. It's a pang of regret knowing that I hadn't reached out as often as I should have.
Hailing from Pune, I vividly remember the time we had the pleasure of meeting Omkar's parents during an industrial trip to Pune. Their warmth and hospitality left a lasting impression, adding depth to our friendship. In this moment of profound loss, my thoughts and prayers are with Omkar's family. Losing a loved one is never easy, and I can only hope they find the strength and courage to navigate through this difficult time. Omkar leaves behind his wife and children, and my heart goes out to them as they come to terms with their loss.
As we bid farewell to Omkar, I find solace in the memories we shared and the impact he had on those around him. His kindness, warmth, and genuine nature touched many lives, leaving behind a legacy of love and friendship.
To my dear friend Omkar, may you find eternal peace and serenity in the afterlife. Your presence will be dearly missed, but your memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you.
